“Thought I'd try shooting my way out — mix things up a little.”

[INFO]
Name: Master Chief Petty Officer SPARTAN 117 (John-117)
Canon: Halo (Games/Novels, we Don't Talk About Paramount+ Halo)
Gender: Male
Age: Late 30s (ish, has spent a lot of time in cryogenic suspension, chronologically he's 48)
What His Deal Is: Hypercompetent space super soldier was raised to the job from childhood, has spent his whole life fighting a terrible war against a xenocidal alien empire. (And if we're talking after the war, things just keep getting weirder and sadder for him.)

[APPEARANCE]

Height/Weight: 6'10"/290 lbs (7'2"/1000 lbs armored)

Looks:
John is, like most Spartans, huge and built like a long haul truck. His skin is exceptionally pale (he's white and doesn't get any sun) and he's covered in scars. The clean, straight, surgical ones from his augmentations as a teenager are faint and faded, though he has some more recent ones from having organs replaced with flash-cloned ones. There's a lot of variety but the gnarlier scars are mostly plasma burns. Brown hair, very short, starting to grey a bit. Clean shaven. Blue eyes.

Style: He's happiest in armor, which is pretty fucked up. His feelings about clothing are mostly that he wants to be temperature appropriate and able to move well when he has to, anything else is a much lower consideration.

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.”

[OOC / Character Types ]
Backtagging: Yes!
Threadhopping: If it's on a network post of some kind go right for it, my dude. If it's a log or something, ask, but if the other player's okay with it it's probably fine with me.
Fourthwalling: Chief is one of my only characters that I'm usually fine with fourthwalling that characters who would've played games in the 2000s have played Halo or w/e. (Casual familiarity is fine, but I'd prefer not getting into other characters knowing the serious backstory details that were only mentioned in the books/later games.)
OCs: Yes!
Media: Hit me with anything. Bring me your las, your animes, your vidyas.
Assumed CR?: Absolutely on memes. In games you're free to assume a character has picked up his name and reputation off of the comms network or w/e, or that they've seen each other around if they've been in game together without threading for a good while.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): I'd appreciate a warning for typically shocking or gross topics coming up out of nowhere, but there's not anything that's particularly sensitive for me as long as I know what we're doing.
(Backstory stuff is usually not a problem.)

[IC]
Physical Affection: OOCly I'm fine with it, ICly he's mostly just very awkward. He'll accept a hug, but hesitate on returning one.
Flirting with this character: Go ahead, but he's likely to pretend he hasn't noticed if he does notice. Why is this happening, he doesn't know what to do with this, do you even know how bad an idea this is?
Fighting with this character: Heck yeah, dude. I like to keep it short though because I get bored just writing fight choreography for long stretches.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Sure. I prefer to talk about it if we're getting more serious than people being beat up, if we start talking lasting injuries I'm probably talking to you ooc.
Killing this character: Not generally looking to play around with death unless we've got a very specific meme or something.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Ask and I'm generally happy to provide. Like most people, it would upset him to find out someone's been reading his mind without telling him.

[SHIPPING]
Talk to me. I'm soft and I'm here for it if something works, but I need to know that's what you want, and also oh boy. Chief is very isolated and has a lot of claims on his loyalty already: his mission, his Spartans, and Cortana (who is his platonic life partner if she's around.) More than anything, he's likely to back away from this kind of attachment because 1) he can't afford to be distracted, 2) he feels like he doesn't have enough of himself left to give someone as much as they'd deserve, and 3) he very quietly feels like his emotions are unimportant and don't deserve to have priority ever. He also doesn't really have a sex drive due to a side effect of part of the augmentation procedures.

But, if that's all somehow workable, he's a profoundly loyal, surprisingly gentle, and comfortingly steady person to be close with if you can actually manage to get in there. (Kind of a little shit sometimes, though.) Shipping the Chief is a challenge but not impossible.

In general, he admires a strong will, a sense of humor, and appreciates people who are willing to back him up and do talking when he's bad at it. Must have a high tolerance for heroic nonsense. Similar background is a plus, but also oh no I'm so sorry. Anyone too young is a dealbreaker. AUs and/or weird situations where he's contending with fewer things that make this feel impossible help.

Canon Characters:
- I don't ship him with other Spartan-IIs
- Cortana's a maybe with some legwork, she's his most important person but I don't read their canonical interactions as romantic by default
- If you can make an excuse for the Arbiter, I'll hear you out
- Nobody plays Echo 216 but if you do, I'm very here for it
- Anything else, make a pitch and I'll tell you what I think

[SMUT]
I mostly am not comfortable rping smut. But if you want to know anyway:
John's never been interested for his own sake. He doesn't get much out of it physically. Still, if things are deep enough, he's not unwilling to figure it out if it will let him express care and that's really what it would be about for him.

“We'll head for the portal, and we'll all go home.”

[WARNINGS]
The Chief does not blindly love the space military, but he grew up in it and it's all he knows. He had a terrible childhood marked by abuses and surgical alteration meant to shape him and the other young Spartans into effective weapons (and has a ton of excuses about why actually it doesn't matter if it was okay or not because it made him useful.) His original purpose was supposed to be putting down rebellions against the United Earth Government, which has a mess of implications. He doesn't like doing it, but he has killed people.

Also just in general, he's been fighting a losing battle with aliens since he was a teenager, and recently he had to deal with space zombies too. He has had a rough life.
